Our Planted Native Woodlands

Barnacahogue

Co. Mayo

Barnacahogue1

Project type:

New Native Woodland

Site Size:

10.4 hectares

Project Status:

Planted Spring 2022

Planted Location:

Co. Mayo

This recently planted site is going to grow into a truly wonderful native woodland. There are already natural pockets of scrub and wet heath which add to the biodiversity value, as do the streams running through. Species planted include the likes of oak, birch and holly in drier areas with alder and willow added in lower, wetter areas.

Each native woodland planted by The Nature Trust is unique. At this stage these woodlands are young and in time they will be open to the public, with trails and signage added where appropriate. There is great potential for how these sites can be of benefit to local communities as they grow and we encourage community involvement in these woodlands. We will be adding new sites to the website over time, so keep an eye out to see if a new one is established near you!
