Birch

Birch is a deciduous light-loving tree and grows well where it is not shaded by other trees. It has pale-coloured bark and distinct triangular leaves with serrated edges. Enjoying wet conditions, it’s known as a “pioneer” species and is often the first type of tree to make its mark in a new woodland. Woodpeckers are known to nest in holes in mature birch trees.
