Co. Roscommon
This new native woodland is at a site of historic significance beside Aughrim ancient graveyard. It is a scenic location with a stream running along the southern edge of the site, which is an additional habitat for wildlife. The mix of species planted includes oak, birch, alder and hawthorn.
Each native woodland planted by The Nature Trust is unique. At this stage these woodlands are young and in time they will be open to the public, with trails and signage added where appropriate. There is great potential for how these sites can be of benefit to local communities as they grow and we encourage community involvement in these woodlands. We will be adding new sites to the website over time, so keep an eye out to see if a new one is established near you!
